Stage 1 Interview

Go to www.greyhound.com and get yourself scheduled for an interview and print off the application. Secure yourself an interview at your local Greyhound terminal. By doing this you will be able to find all the correct answers that you need to become a driver for Greyhound. Sometimes they have application days. This is what I went to.

I met the driver manager which was real cool,  and two driver instructors which were also real cool. I had to submit an appliction and then watch a video to make sure Greyhound was right for me.

Here are some tips for a great interview!

1. When you go to the terminal look sharp DO NOT  wear Greyhound merchandise, the other person that showed up for the application process was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and had bad body odor. I wore a tie and such.

2. DO NOT try to over impress them avoid chit chat about how much you love Greyhound or how much you want to work for Greyhound or how your father drove for them for 18 years. If you have ever driven bus tell them but down play it.  If you are a truck driver beware, down play it, Greyhound really don't like to hire truck drivers because they are set in their ways. (Sorry truckers) But if you are one don't brag about it.  Also if you have ever drove any type of buses mention it but down play it. Don't get to happy about it. Remember they are not "bus fans"

 3. Next you will watch a 10 minute video explaing Greyhound.

4. After that their is a small quiz. Relax the quiz is to see if you have it all togteher upstairs. The quiz contains alot of stuff, some basic math, some reading, some "Paying attention" skills and of course geography. "YA Think" Then the supervisor explained some about the terminal and the routes. We were also given a breif description about training. Where it would be and what is expected of us. There wasn't much questioning from him at that time. He asked if we had any questions and opened the floor to them. After that he sat up an 2nd interview with me for an other day. Obvisouly he was impressed with my applictaion and how I presented myself.

Next interview step:  If you are invited back for a second interview congrat's you are pretty much in.

The second interview contains questions that place you in everyday scenarios like what if or what would you do questions. They just want to know if you can handle the demands of being a driver.

After that they will probably invite you to Driver Training School. 1st you must get a physical. They will send you off for one at their doctors and they will give you a DOT card. You have to be legally blind or have major problems not to pass this. You will have to pay for the physical my physical cost arond $60.00, after you become a driver you will be reimbursed for it.

The supervisor stresses something very important and you should remember this always. JUST BECAUSE YOU GO TO DTS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE HIRED. Only after you successfully pass all aspects of DTS then you will be hired.

3. Okay after you go through everything the application process and the DOT you have to get your CDL Permit. Unless you already have a CDL then your fine. After you secure your interview with Greyhound you need to go to your local DMV office and get a study guide and all required paper work for getting your permit. Study study study! You must have your permit or CDL before going to school!
