Driving for the Dog

Okay now you know how to get your foot in the door to Greyhound here are some things you should know about driving with the Hound.  Remember your NOT HIRED until you successfully pass all aspects of Training!

1. You will be on the extra board up to 2 TO 5 years at some locations. What does that mean? It means basically you will be on call 24/7 365. If you can handle being called out at anytime to go pretty much anywhere then good. If not then maybe it is not right for you. Some boards turn every 10 hours so it is a quick working board. You can expect to drive mostly at night and stay overnight somewhere sometimes. If you are lucky and have a good terminal then you will get a set route within 2 years. There is a-lot to it, more will be explained about it at your interview. Different terminals have different styles.

2. In the summer be prepared to be away from home more often than Winter months unless you take a transfer to another board.

3. Driver pay, this depends on the location you are working from, the usual salary for a new driver is around $ 16.05 an hour for a regular line run.  Remember Greyhound has a pay scale for driving regular runs, dead heading, cushioning, lay - overs and overtime.   The pay will be disscussed more in detail with you at the interview.
